Comfortable high heels: 6 Best practices to pick the right shoes

We all know it: comfortable high heels are a Petite woman’s best friend. They make you look taller and make any outfit more stylish.

But, finding the right pair is not always easy. So here are 6 pieces of advice to help you find the one pair of shoes that can accompany you the whole day and still feel comfortable.

1 – The right size and fit

This might be obvious but if you are wearing shoes that are not your exact size, your feet will hurt. Heels which are loose can lead to your foot sliding up and down and you not being able to keep your balance. Not to mention injuries such as bleeding, blisters, and ripped toenails.

Of course, the best is to have custom-made shoes that will snuggle your feet. It does exist but it’s a pricey solution. Otherwise, don’t hesitate to shop around and try different shoe brands. They do size differently.

2 – A good pair of high heels is stable

If you give a little tap on the side of your high heels, if they are quality ones, they should regain their balance quickly. If not, it means the architecture of the heels is not well thought out.

Another way of seeing it is to check where the heel is placed. If it is too far back the heel will not provide the needed support. As a matter of fact, the heel should be placed exactly under your own heel.

The ticker the heel, the greater the support of your body. The ticker the heel, the better your weight distribution and the lower the risk of spraining your ankles. The wider the heels, the better stability.

3 – Prefer Leather or Suede shoes

Many shoes are actually made with synthetic leather or plastic. They are cheaper and more affordable.

However, they don’t last very long and they tend to make your feet hurt. High-heels made from leather or suede are more supple, more comfortable and will more easily adjust to the feet shape. This will also prevent your feet from chafing.

Again, they might be more expensive at first but your feet will thank you for the investment. And if you take good care of them, they can last you for a long time.

4 – Sole thickness and cushions

When picking up high heels, try choosing a pair of shoes with a thick sole. A good sole will cushion the impact of the foot with the ground.

Try also to look for heels that have cushioning and adequate padding in that area. Wearing high heels puts more pressure on the ball of your foot. Having cushions inside the shoes will provide more comfort and stability for your feet. Some high heels already include such padding and cushioning in their designs. As a side note, know that some companies sell shoe insoles and cushions that can help upgrade the comfort of any shoes you have.

5 – Shop in the evening and test them

At the end of the day, your feet are more likely to be swollen from work and daily activities. When shopping in the evening, you will know how the shoe will fit you at all times of the day.

Also, take some time when you are in a shop to walk around with shoes on. If they feel too tight, loose or if they hurt, it is likely they are not going to get more comfortable over time.

6 – Pick the High heel height you feel the most comfortable with

Yes, ultra high heels and stilettos are beautiful and they make you look a lot taller. However, you don’t need to wear them if you are not used to. There are plenty of heights to pick from : low heel, mid-heel, high heel, ultra high heel. And when you are petite, sometimes just a low-heel or mid-heel can help you feel a little different.

If you are a short girl or a petite woman, you don’t need high heels to look taller. You can look taller by putting together the right outfit. However, if you are just a petite high heel lover, we hope that this article helped you make what you love even more enjoyable.
